Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Corners

Corners are a set-piece play in Football (soccer) which are awarded to the attacking side when the ball leaves the field of play behind the Goal Line following contact with a defender. In each corner of the field where the Side Line intersects the Goal Line a Corner Flag is placed and an arc is drawn which is called the Corner Arc. For the awarded Corner to be taken the player must place the ball so that at least part of it is within the Corner Arc. The Referee or the Referee’s Assistant will supervise the placement of the ball prior to the Corner Kick being taken.

The ball has been placed and the Referee’s Assistant is watching the goal area for any infringements whilst the player waits for the Referee to signal that the Corner Kick can be taken…

A Corner Kick is a scoring opportunity. This one against Needham Market finds the head of our Number 9, Marc, at the near post……and he directs the ball across the goal into the top far corner leaving the keeper stranded…

Apologies for the quality of these images – all taken at night games this winter. Our floodlights are awful meaning I have to use a very high ISO and balance shutter speed against under-exposure 😦
