My 5th photo in this series is from Firenze or Florence if you prefer. We first visited the city for our honeymoon, so it is a special place for us. This photo was taken on our second visit in 2015 and shows the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore as visitors often first glimpse it – along narrow streets hemmed in by small shops and dwellings…
Our Son was with us on this trip and it was interesting to see how much of the city he recognised. Although he had never visited before there were many landmarks he recognised instantly or after a short period of thought, with an occasional prompt from me. How did he do that? Well.. He and I have both played the game Assassins Creed II which features an exquisitely detailed 15th century modelling of Firenze. Much of the city is still as it was when Leonardo Da Vinci and Michaelangelo were alive – especially the many churches and the Ponte Vecchio. In the game you can climb up to the top of the Dome and the Campanile – Now Alasdair has done it for real too 🙂
I did the exact opposite: went there before the game was released, then played the game and wished it had been released earlier, because now I know what I want to see in Firenze 😉 Very nice shot!

Thank you 🙂 My first visit was before the game too. I think the game enhanced my understanding of the city. It’s definitely worth a second visit 🙂
Great view of the Duomo….I have been to the top, many years ago, and it was quite a climb!
Thanks Sue – Yes, it is quite a climb 🙂
😊
