Hurrying into Autumn

A worn, dark, overcoat
Of twilight hangs
On a new day’s dawn
As Summer hurries into Autumn
And August’s passion is spent
In one last hot flush
before leaves brown
And fruits fall to earth
As Nature prepares
behind a veil of mists
To sleep once more
