Five Question Friday

1. Dream job…realistic and completely unrealistic.
Freight Train Driver and Freight Train Driver – Sometimes wish I had gone to work on the railways when I left school but the lure of more money as a Telephone Engineer was too great.   I’m just too long in the tooth now to change jobs.   Still, I get to live my dream job via the Railworks computer simulation.

2. Do you fart in front of your significant other?
Of course, though not intentionally.   And, of course, my significant other doesn’t does she? – one of these days I’ll get to the bottom of that strange rumbling noise in the middle of the night (can’t be the Underground cos that stops running at around 01:00) 😉

3. What’s the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home? How far and where was it?
8256 km or 5130 miles.   As we flew we’d better have that in nautical miles too – 4458.  Harare in Zimbabwe. My wife is off to Zimb this evening – any of you kind ladies available to help with the cooking for the next 10 days 😉

4. How do you celebrate birthday for your kids? Family only or friends? … Alternate for those without kiddos: How did you celebrate birthdays as a kid?
Family and God Parents / Friends.   Unfortunately his birthday falls in the Christmas holiday so it’s impossible to organise a party with his school friends.  Perhaps we’ll try to organise something special in the spring term next year.

5. Fave thing about fall?
Turning leaves, red berries, morning mists and weather that’s often better than the summer – they’re forecasting a sunny weekend and 27 Celsius next week!

  1. Maybe you could get a part time job on a railroad? Choo . . . choo . . .

My dad and brothers are electrical engineers ~ in telecommunications, not on RR tracks.

    • Hi Nancy. I used to be an engineer – now they don’t let us touch anything 😦 It all started when the Telephone Exchanges became 1 man and his dog – the man was there to feed the dog and the dog was there to keep the man away from the equipment 😉

I would probably have got involved with a preserved line but there are none that are really close to where I live.

  2. Zimbabwe sounds like an incredibly interesting place to visit – awesome!

  3. You made me giggle today, Martin. And you and my husband share exactly the same dream. What is it about boys and freight trains?

  4. Hey I really liked this idea of “Five Question Friday”. Loved reading your post. Had a laugh too and a smile all the way to the end. 🙂
